Anxy Issue 2: The Final 48 Hours
over 6 years ago – Sun, Oct 29, 2017 at 11:53:10 AM

Dear Friends of Anxy,

We’re excited to announce that we’ve reached the final TWO DAYS of our Kickstarter campaign! Thanks to all of you, we are only 10% away from reaching our goal.

Anxy was created to dispel any remaining taboos concerning how we acknowledge and talk about mental health. We are grateful to those of you who’ve supported us this past year. Our forthcoming magazine, “The Workaholism Issue,” seeks to bring you the same quality reporting, thoughtful design, and honest essays from diverse voices as our first issue.

One of the biggest challenges of running a Kickstarter is breaking outside your our own circle of friends. Please help us spread the word about our Kickstarter by forwarding it to family members, coworkers, friends, and those in your social networks to get the word out about Anxy and our Kickstarter.

While it looks like we’ll reach our initial goal, we’d love it if you could help push us past it. How far can we go?! We think the sky’s the limit.

Five ways you can help:

1. Consider making a pledge! We've added a *brand new* pledge level: The Anxy T-Shirt. Now you can get the mag and the t-shirt to flaunt your Anxy spirit to the world. (Shipping charges remain the same)

2. Send a personalized note to three people you know who might be Anxy too.
This might surprise you (or maybe not), but email is still the best way to spread the word. Do you know people who care about mental health? Do they know about Anxy yet? Give them the gift of discovering we exist.

3. Tell your friends and family about Anxy on social media.
Tweet it / Share on Facebook

4. Share Anxy with colleagues within your organization.
Your coworkers might love Anxy, or your organization might be interested in becoming an Anxy Patron or Benefactor. Maybe, they would want to get a subscription for the office? Could be cool!

5. Link to our Kickstarter in your blog or newsletter.
Oh, and feel free to tell us about it. :)

Thank you in advance for all your efforts and continuing to support our project. We couldn't be here without you!

Stay Anxy.

With Love,
Indhi + The Anxy Team

P.S. Our apologies in advance to those of you receiving duplicates of this email. We wanted to make sure we got the word out to as many people as possible.

Less than two weeks to go for Anxy No.2!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Oct 17, 2017 at 02:21:28 PM

Thanks to everyone who has re-committed to Anxy for our second issue—we've now passed 40% funding! But less than two weeks remain, and the deadline is going to come up on us fast.

Maybe you're waiting until the last minute to decide. Perhaps you're already a subscriber, or you've found other ways to commit to Anxy or show your support. Even so, there are still ways to help by pledging to our Issue 2 Kickstarter campaign. Here are a few:

—Get your hands on our swag. We've got a beautiful poster from Ori Toor; a stylish new tote bag; a trio of custom-made workbooks, and more. You can even get the goodies without the magazine by picking our "Believer" bundle.

—Join our get-one-give-one program. We've found that anyone who gets the chance to read Anxy suddenly understands the reason other readers love it—and the help it can offer. So why not purchase a subscription for somebody else?

—Become a patron. Those of you lucky enough to have deep pockets can pledge at our higher tiers to get a mention in the magazine or Episode, our popular email newsletter—either for yourself or, perhaps, for the non-profit of your choice. (Note: We can't make it tax deductible.)

Signalling to other people that the campaign has momentum is vitally important to our success, so if you've been thinking about pledging just before the clock runs out, consider doing it now when it will count for even more.

Otherwise, we'll be in touch one more time before time runs out.

Anxy No.2 is now live on Kickstarter!
over 6 years ago – Tue, Oct 10, 2017 at 05:37:14 PM

A year ago we ran our launch campaign for Anxy—and with your help, we were able to turn an idea into reality. We were truly overcome by the massive response, and your kindness helped us deliver an inaugural issue that we could be really proud of.

That work hasn’t gone unnoticed: We’ve seen coverage in the New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and a host of international publications; We just got nominated for Launch of the Year in the Stack awards, which are focused on celebrating the best independent magazines. We’ve started distributing in Barnes & Noble stores, as well as through a growing network of independent stockists, and we're steadily building our subscriber base. None of that could have happened without you.

Now we’re getting ready for Anxy No.2—The Workaholism Issue. Its 144 pages contain deep storytelling, awesome photography, wonderful art, and real honesty about the way work and mental health intersect. Today's World Mental Health Day: We think it’s the right moment to open this conversation.

We’re so excited, in fact, that we’re launching a new Kickstarter campaign.

Why are we fundraising again? Using Kickstarter to generate pre-sales helps us plan for the future so that we can get Anxy out there into as many people’s hands as possible. And while we know that many of you became ongoing subscribers, we also know that a lot of our existing supporters are waiting for the next issue.

So: This gives you a chance to buy Anxy No.2, get some great goodies, and support the creative people who contribute to the magazine.

Some of you have already gotten in early and supported this new campaign—and thank you for that. If you haven't, then go ahead and take a look.

The first 48 hours of any campaign are critical to its success, so if you want to help us out, here are some things you can do right now.

Support us, and help the project gain vital momentum.

—Share what we’re doing on social media, linking to anxymag.com/kickstarter or sharing our @anxymag handle.

—Forward our campaign on to three people you know who care about workaholism. Maybe it'll help them think about something they're struggling with.

In the meantime, here's some of the work we'll be sharing inside the issue, which will be landing in people's mailboxes this November.

If you don't want to join in this time, we're still thankful for that early support. And if you liked what you got from Anxy No.1, then we'd really appreciate your backing this time around.

— Team Anxy

One year on: You made it happen

Dear Anxy people,

There’s so much to tell you! We spent the past few months processing all the lovely feedback we’ve received and making sure we’re delivering on our promises. So, first, thank you for saying hi, appreciating the magazine, and continuing to be a part of the Anxy community—wherever you are.

Here’s a recap of what we’ve done with all that positivity

In June, we were invited to magCulture Meets, a spotlight series for independent publishers, in London. Our lovely contributing editor Kati Krause sat down with Steve Watson from Stack to talk about Anxy’s fresh and open approach to mental health, listen in here. Later that month, the New York Times featured Anxy in a Sunday Style piece, “An Anxious Nation.” That was a pretty big start to the summer!

You won't believe how far the magazine traveled since our launch. We've partnered with stockists around the world—from Quimby's Bookstore in Brooklyn and Chicago to Athanaeum Niewscentrum in Amsterdam and Book B in Hong Kong—and we're proud to announce Anxy is now available in Barnes & Noble stores across the U.S! We made this magazine in California, but it was never meant to stay here. Part of our mission is to connect Anxy people everywhere with the stories we tell. Thanks to all of our outstanding stockists, it is happening.

We just got a great profile in the San Francisco Chronicle, plus our founder and Creative Director Indhira Rojas recently got back from IndieCon in Hamburg, where the independent magazines’ best of the best met to discuss the challenges of what we do. Listen to Indhi talk shop with Monocle on The Globalist podcast (at 35'30").

And if you’re newsletter subscribers, you heard we just launched Episode, the brand new, box-fresh Anxy newsletter. We’re making each issue something you can really get your teeth into, and even partnered with SFMOMA to bring you Laurie Penny’s take on the myth of the tortured artist.

Now we have one more update: Rewards.

To our knowledge, the handful of outstanding items from our Kickstarter were sent out this past week. Thank you, thank you for your patience in this long, laborious fulfillment process. If you’re one of those who was still missing your reward, you should have received an email with tracking information.

Didn’t get one? Reach out to us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to pass along your tracking number, or investigate further.

In other news, Anxy No. 2 is in the works, and we hope you’ll follow our progress at @anxymag.

We are so proud of what've been able to accomplish together. We want to close with some quotes on what readers are saying...

From Monica: “There are no words for how necessary this entire publication is. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for collecting these profound narratives, and also for breathing such awareness into such an important sector of life.”

From Michael: “[Anxy] shows how a certain degree of sophistication, of editorial intelligence, of pure craftsmanship in writing, editing and designing can turn around each expectation, each prejudice, each Zeitgeist diagnosis one might have. I’m so excited about Anxy...because it demonstrates so clearly that the power of storytelling, of true storytelling, overwhelms the barriers of ideologies—even of your own.”

From Libby: “Whether it is something to do with the mind, your current state, your history, Anxy is about reaching out and supporting each other wordlessly. In the privacy of your own head you can read, learn, discover more about ourselves and yourself, and slowly, hopefully, feel less alone without having to part your lips.”

Thank you for believing in us. We did it (Now, give yourselves a huge round of applause)!

As always,
We are Anxy
